Figuring out the right image size for your social media posts can be an overwhelming prospect, especially when there are a million of blog posts telling you what are the “right” image sizes for LinkedIn, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, etc. It can be hard to keep track of all the pixels!

But I’m here to tell you that you don’t need to worry about all that.

Yes, there are IDEAL image sizes for each of the social media networks, but you don’t need ideal. We’re busy and creating a dozen different images just to publish ONE piece of content is not realistic. What you need are image sizes that WORK.

And there are really only two image sizes you need to worry about: Square & Vertical

For the majority of social media networks, a square image will work wonderfully. They display properly, look great and can be used across all the big players:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • LinkedIn
  • Twitter

The only exception to this is Pinterest. On Pinterest the vertical image is queen! They take up more space and help you stand out in a sea of images.

So if you’re looking to create images for social media here’s what you need to know:

  • Go Square for the majority of your images ideal size of 1200 x 1200px.
  • For Pinterest do vertical images, the best size is 600 x 900px (or 2:3 proportion)

Keep it simple, create two templates in Canva for your social media images, one square and one vertical and ignore all the others. It will save you time and brain cells and your images will still shine and look amazing on social media!
